The gas tank of the station wagon, near the shattered windshield of the Campbell car, exploded as the Campbells struggled to get out. The two occupants of the station wagon, who were not identified, suffered minor cuts and bruises and were treated and released at Loyola University Medical Center. Police are searching for the driver of the third car, who fled after the accident.
Neapolitan said the car skidded for about 130 feet. IN ANOTHER accident over the holiday weekend, an Addison youth was crushed to death Sunday beneath an Army Jeep that he. and two friencb had reportedly taken from an Army Reserve base. The victim was identified as. Keith Bradner, 15, of 745 Lake Manor according to Christopher Nelson, deputy Du Page County coroner.
Bradner and two friends apparently had climbed two fences and opened the gate in a third to reach the motor-pool of the U.S. Army Reserve base at Full-erton Avenue and Lombard Road in Addison, Nelson said. The three were driving at the east end of the former Nike missile base when the Jeep overturned, throwing the youth under its left rear wheel. THOMAS GUSTAFSON, 40, of 3530 N. Greenview was killed when his car, southbound on Lincoln Avenue near Addison Street, collided head-on early Monday with a car driven by Kenneth Fitze, 26, of 2223 W.
School St. Fitze was reported in fair condition at Illinois Masonic Hospital with broken legs and multiple cuts and bruises. EIGHT PEOPLE were injured Monday night when a car northbound on Southwest Highway at 113th Street in Palos Hills hit a guard rail and crashed into four other cars. The driver of the car, identified by police as a 20-year-old Chicago man, apparently lost control after hitting the guard rail and collided with two northbound and two southbound cars. The driver of the first car was taken to Palos Community Hospital in critical condition.
Four passengers in his vehicle suffered severe lacerations and broken bones, according to a hospital spokesman. Passengers in three of the other cars involved in the crash were also injured. EARLIER MONDAY a 20-year-old Palos Hills woman was killed when her car was struck broadside in an intersection in Orland Park, becoming the 11th local traffic fatality since the start of the Labor Day weekend. Ilka Maria Grundel of 8025 Valley Dr. was southbound on 108th Avenue at 159th Street when her car collided with one driven by Nick Renna, 20, of 5485 Adeline Oak Forest, police said.
Renna was treated for minor injuries at Palos Community Hospital, Palos Heights. No tickets were issued. A FIERY three-car pUeup killed a Chicago couple and their two children and injured two other persons early Monday in Maywood. Killed were Herman L. Campbell, 30, of 1345 S.
